A long, long time ago I can still remember how that music used to make me smile.<\/p>\n

Oh, what a night, late December, back in ’63, what a very special time for me, as I remember, what a night.<\/p>\n

A person of a certain age can tell you the song, artist, and probably where they were or what they were doing the first time they heard it.<\/p>\n

Music can generate powerful reactions<\/h4>\n

Alzheimer\u2019s or other types of dementia will cause seniors to lose memories of events that have happened in their lives. But personal events, to some degree, may be part of that music. Since music pulls from different areas of the brain than those damaged by Alzheimer\u2019s, music may help uncover some personal memories from someone afflicted with this disease simply by listening to songs that shaped the different stages of his\/her life.<\/p>\n

Music can also be used to improve their mood, manage stress, promote positive interactions, and increase cognitive functions. Since rhythmic responses do not require much cognitive function, these seniors can engage in music even when they are in late stages of Alzheimer\u2019s. Music can generate powerful reactions from many people, with or without cognitive impairment.<\/p>\n
