What does the United States and Naperville Senior Center have in Common?
Did you enjoy your Independence Day? Food, fun and fireworks were in store for many people this holiday weekend. At the center of it all is the American Flag – Old Glory, the Stars and Stripes.
We all learned years ago in school that the 13 stripes represent the 13 British colonies that declared independence from the Kingdom of Great Britain and became the first 13 states. The stars represent each of the states that currently belong to the United States of America.
But have you ever thought about why our flag is red, white and blue? Surprisingly, there is no reason! It turns out that our Founding Fathers didn’t put a lot of thought into the flag colors, but they did for the Great Seal of the United States, which is still used to authenticate certain documents issued by the federal government.
They are:
White stripes: signifies purity and innocence
Red stripes: signifies hardiness and valour
Blue band: signifies vigilance, perseverance and justice
These are great traits our Founding Fathers wanted this new country called the United States of America to portray to the rest of the world.
I can also see these traits in Naperville Senior Center:
Purity: Pam and I started this business out of love and the desire to help others, especially our aging loved ones. Our hearts were (and are) pure and passionate as we put the wheels in motion to create our dream.
Hardiness: The last year and a half has been an amazing journey and we look forward to the future. Like with any business, there have been trials and tribulations; some months travelling one step forward and two backward. But we have worked – and continue to work – through all challenges with the determination to ensure NSC is “Home Away from Home” for our Members.
Vigilance: We never stop working to make things better for our Members; continuous improvement. New equipment, games, songs, activities, food… whatever we can find that provides stimulation, both mentally and physically. Many folks working in this senior services category who have toured our ‘Home’ have commented they have not seen any place as well thought out as NSC.
At Naperville Senior Center, our focus is always on our Members, providing them the opportunity to colorize, harmonize, hypothesize, verbalize, improvise, evangelize, exercise, and have fun with us and the other NSC Members throughout the day. We work hard finding new ways to engage them while listening, playing, singing, socializing, or exercising with them.
Like our Founding Fathers did centuries ago, we have put a lot of thought into the details of our new venture and we are thrilled to share it with all of you.
