Community Resources for Elderly
It’s important to understand that there are many resources available to seniors aging at home. We at Naperville Senior Center can help you navigate the care options that are available to our aging citizens, ease the stress of finding affordable quality care, and (in many cases) put off or eliminate the need for costly senior housing and retirement communities to ensure we live independently.
This can include anything from in-home care to personal care and assisted-living from caregivers other senior care. In fact, there are programs and associations dedicated to helping seniors in every aspect of their lives. Whether you need help with your taxes, transportation, medical insurance, finding the right caregiver service, modifying your home, or finding out what government benefits you may be eligible for, there are lots of great resources that can help you get the help you need. In this article, we’ve listed 5 resources that can provide valuable information and help to seniors living independently.
1) The National Council on Aging works with nonprofit organizations, governments, and businesses in order to provide community programs and services.
2) The AARP is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization whose focus is helping people 50 and older to improve the quality of their lives.
3) Programs of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE®) assist people who are age 55 or older by providing and coordinating all the types of care a senior living at home might need such as medical care, personal care, rehabilitation, social interaction, medications, and transportation.
4) At Mesothelioma Hope, they offer free resources that are reviewed by certified oncologists and provide detailed information about mesothelioma and its health impacts. Their mission is to raise awareness about cancer and other asbestos-related diseases such as mesothelioma. Call Now to Learn More About Your Mesothelioma Treatment Options (855) 919-1282.
5) Ride Assist Naperville (RAN) was founded in April 2016. RAN’s team of volunteer drivers takes Naperville Residents who are unable to drive, to their medical appointments, waits for them, and drives them home.
Additional local Community Resources for elderly may be found by visiting the Naperville Senior task Force.
National Adult Day Services Association Resources:
6) Caregiving Population statistics as of January 31, 2023.
7) Adult Day Services and Respite: In addition to allowing family caregivers to continue working outside the home, ADS services allow caregivers to receive help with the physical care of a loved one, avoid the guilt
of placing a loved one in institutional care, and have respite from what can be a “24/7” responsibility. Research has shown that ADS programs reduce caregiver depression, stress and burden levels linked to caregiver health
and well being
